Brew at his 1st Rally Competition

Today, Brew and I competed in our 1st Rally competition. We got 91 out of 100 and our 1st leg of 3 towards a Rally Novice Title. As you can see Brew was a little distracted at the beginning as he was looking for Jo who had the treat bag. Next time, I won't let him see her and the treat bag. We placed 5th just missing 4th place ribbon by one point. Below is the video from today.

Brew & Bob at the Renton Fun Match!

Today, Jo and I got up early for the Renton Fun Match. Below are videos of their Rally runs. I learned outdoor rings are a huge distraction for the beagles. Brew held it together until the 8th sign and then he was all beagle - smelling and sniffing the ground. Bob also smelled everything as well as jumping all over the place. Overall, they both did pretty well after all they are beagles and so they should get extra credit. I've entered Brew in Rally at the June Puyallup show so I can see we need to do some extensive training in the next two weeks without treats.

Jack A Roo won a 5 point major yesterday (Friday) at the Lewiston, Id dog show. Go Jack - just heard that he won another 5 point major on Sunday.

Brew visits Hiltz Beagles

Brew and I drove south to visit with David and Lesley. And Brew got his teeth cleaned and ended up having to have four teeth pulled - OUCH! Maybe now he'll stop chewing on those rocks. LOL

It's the Puppies 1st Birthday!

It's hard to believe that Abba & Jazz's puppies are a year old. Looking back at their pictures when they were younger than 3 months old brings a smile to my face every time.

Brew goes to the Enumclaw Fun Match

Well, I wish I had lots of pictures to show you, but both of my photographers bailed on me: Jo (because of Bainbridge Island Cherry Pie - an UNACCEPTABLE EXCUSE) and Tonya (because Eavan was sick - an acceptable excuse).

Brew did quite well on the show grounds after he settled down. However, in the ring from my perspective, it was not so good. There seem to be lots of white spots on the ground that Brew just had to sniff and all the distractions constantly had him looking everywhere except at me. He also seemed to have forgotten that when I stop he is also supposed to stop and sit next to me, not continue forward and then turn around and look at me. We didn't have any warm up time for the pre-novice obedience so I guess I'm partly to blame.

In the Rally ring, (which was in a horse ring with very soft dirt), I think he did a little better just got a bit dusty. However, I think the handler (me) needs a little more work. The judge keep saying the sign is supposed to be on your right. OK, I get it! No one ever told me that before or maybe I wasn't listening.

On a whim, I decided to try the Good Canine Citizen(CGC) test. Brew passed with flying colors.
